The Humane Society of Montgomery County, Texas, is a ​501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the humane treatment of animals through community education and supporting responsible pet/animal ownership. 

While we support our local shelters, we do not operate the shelters in Montgomery County. For information regarding the shelters in our country, please click on "Adoptions" above.

HSMC History Highlights

1972

Montgomery County Humane Society is founded by Bobbie Burd, John Gutekunst, and Nancy Meyer for “the prevention of cruelty of animals.”

1983 

The first animal shelter in Montgomery County is constructed by the City of Conroe at 1016 East Dallas Street. It is managed by the Montgomery County Humane Society.

1993 

An article of amendment is signed to change the name from Montgomery County Humane Society to the Humane Society of Montgomery County (HSMC). 

HSMC receives a $5,000 grant from Bob Barker’s DJ&T Foundation to perform spays and neuters.
HSMC receives more than $20,000 in funding as a result of monies from purchases of “animal friendly” license plates. 
8th Annual Fore! The Animals Charity Golf Tournament sponsored by Magnolia’s Lake Windcrest Golf Club raises over $25,000.

2002 

8th Annual Mutt Strutt held at Northshore Park

2003 

1st Annual Bow Wow Meow Luau raises $22,000.

9th Annual Mutt Strutt held at Northshore Park.

HSMC dog and cat Christmas ornaments, painted by the clients of Bridgewood Farms, are offered for sale at Woodforest Banks. 

2004

HSMC performs over 2,000 spay/neuter procedures

2019

HSMC rebrands, Same Mission, New Vision in support of local pet rescues and wildlife rescues and centers. 

2020

Free Pet Food Pantries aiding those in need during COVID-19 pandemic. Humane Society of Montgomery County partners with Montgomery County Animal Shelter, Interfaith of The Woodlands, Houston Humane Society, and Petco Foundation
